By David Ha’enigPublished 10:30 PM, January 18, 202112:47ZAIPAD – Israel has announced plans to build 1.3 million new homes in the countrys second-largest city in the coming years, with construction slated to start by 2021.
The government said in a press release that the plan would provide the country with a new home for its 1.7 million residents.
The new houses will be in an area of the city that has seen a significant influx of foreign and domestic migrants in recent years.
According to the government, this influx is due to the country’s housing shortages and has made the city extremely vulnerable.
The government said the plan will help ease the situation.
The announcement comes just a few weeks after the country inaugurated a new law that will allow the construction of up to 300,00 new homes per year.
The number of housing units in the city has risen from around 200,000 to 300.
The plan, announced last month, will also include the construction, renovation and renovation of 3,000 more homes over the next decade, the government said.
